Oregon says it will refuse to comply with Trump’s DEI order on public schools
Gotta say I’m pretty happy to have moved to a state where elected officials are still willing to tell co-President Trump to go piss up a rope.
Social Security lists thousands of living immigrants as dead to prompt them to leave, AP sources say
Pretty much literally Orwellian. All it lacks is the official use of “unperson” to describe these immigrants.

Supreme Court rules Trump administration must ‘facilitate’ return of mistakenly deported man
Basically, the ruling is “why yes, the government DOES have to follow the law.” Now we get to see what bullshit they come up with next to leave Mr. Abrego Garcia in an El Salvador torture center.

Trump Is Stupid, Erratic and Weak
Usually I avoid Paul Krugman, because he seems to me to have the consistent attitude that he is not only the smartest person in the room, but the only one in the room. But I’ll make an exception for this case of confirming my own biases.
Finished: Dissolution by Nicholas Binge 📚. This was an unexpectedly delightful science fiction novel, featuring time travel via immersion in perfect memories of the past and a conspiracy that turns out to be completely different from what it first appears. It also does a great job of portraying both old and young characters sympathetically. I didn’t figure out the closing twist in advance, though in retrospect it seems obvious. Recommended.

NYT:
Asked why he decided on a pause, President Trump says, “Well, I thought that people were jumping a little bit out of line. They were getting yippy. They were getting a little bit afraid.”
Can we get someone to point out to him that people are yippy and afraid about all his other abuses of executive power too? Maybe he’ll just resign when he finds out?
Trump announces pause in tariffs; markets jump
It was what, two days ago that he said he’d never back down? At this point, it’s impossible to know what business conditions will be like hours from now, let alone for months or years. Except they’ll probably get worse.
RFK Jr says his response to measles outbreak should be ‘model for the world’
He left out the words “of what not to do.”
And lest we forget, children died because of misinformation spread by him and his ilk.
Exclusive: Musk’s DOGE using AI to snoop on U.S. federal workers, sources say
Two bad tastes that taste worse together.
Fake job seekers are flooding U.S. companies that are hiring for remote positions, tech CEOs say
With every day that passes, I get more and more happy that I retired (from managing software teams) when I did.
Trump Forgets Basic European History in Bizarre Tariff Rant
Well that’s a charitable headline. I’d be astounded if he ever knew basic European history in the first place.
Trump Adviser Releases Insane List of Demands for Tariffed Countries
Finally, Miran said that countries could “simply write checks” to the Treasury Department.
So the administration is now officially running a protection racket. I guess I’m not surprised.
