Google just arbitrarily switched on Gemini on my phone. Do Not Want. Took ten minutes in settings to eviscerate it. I’m about at the point where I need to dump Android. Not sure what comes next. Certainly not iOS. A pox on all their houses and the AI they rode in on.

Blackmagic Design says tariffs have made camera price hikes ‘unavoidable’

And also, they’re rethinking plans to build a US factory. Literally the opposite of what we were promised these super-high tariffs would achieve.

Pronouns in some reporters' email signatures get a stony response from Trump administration

The Trump/Musk administration continues to display an amazing combination of pettiness, incompetence, and cruelty.

Harvard rejects Trump demands for funding

How sad is it that one institution fighting back against the fascists is a major win? It’s a major win nonetheless. Good for you, Harvard.

The rule of law is pretty much dead in the USA

Trump, Bukele say they won’t return mistakenly deported man to US

As if we couldn’t strong-arm El Salvador into doing anything we want to keep us paying them to keep people in their gulag. This is fucking appalling, not to mention a blatant disregard of the federal courts.

At this point, though, I would support putting some US citizens into El Salvador prisons for a lifetime of hard labor: specifically, Donald Trump, Stephen Miller, and Pam Bondi. I hope I live long enough to see a serious day of reckoning for the thugs and fascists in this administration.

Trump says CBS should lose license after ’60 Minutes’ segments on Ukraine, Greenland

Just in case you didn’t already have “assault on a free press” marked off on your bingo card this term.

China, Vietnam sign agreements on supply chains, railway cooperation

Not sure this is what the administration had in mind when they said there would be 90 trade agreements in 90 days. This probably won’t be the last “enemy of my enemy is my friend” deal out there.

Finished: Straws and Prayer-Books, by James Branch Cabell 📚. This is one of the later volumes in the massive Biography of Manuel, and it’s a commentary on why writers write with only incidental reflections on the Biography itself. Cabell’s main argument is that writers only do it to divert themselves by writing perfectly of beautiful happenings. But he makes this argument over 250n pages of lovely language and enjoyable craft. Well, enjoyable if you’re not completely addicted to airport reading I suppose.

Artisan, the ‘stop hiring humans’ AI agent startup, raises $25M — and is still hiring humans

Looking kinda frothy out there, isn’t it? This is literally more than $1M for every year their CEO has been alive.

US Commerce Secretary says exempted electronic products to come under separate tariffs

He was literally being contradicted by another administration official on a different talk show.

These people can’t even keep their message straight for 24 hours 10 minutes. How anyone can believe they will be credible negotiators for their bragged-about “90 trade deals in 90 days” is beyond me.
