Bessent calls tariffs ‘a one-time price adjustment’

Kind of like having your leg amputated is a one-time body adjustment.

Federal judge in scathing decision calls Trump’s deportation of Salvadoran man ‘wholly lawless’

Not that the administration appears to give a shit. I suspect this one is on the fast track to higher courts.

More details surface in Trump administration plan to cut national forests

Trump appears to believe that declaring national emergencies lets him do whatever the fuck he wants. Sadly, he might be right.

This is what a lawless dictatorship looks like

Trump administration argues judge cannot order return of man mistakenly deported to El Salvador

So to summarize, the administration position is:

  1. We can arrest anyone we want to and decide they’re a member of a terrorist gang that we claim to be at war with (which is not how war works).
  2. We can send anyone we want to prison in another country without any due process or judicial review
  3. We can use taxpayer dollars to pay an illegally-elected strongman in said other country to put these people into a brutal prison that is known to violate human rights
  4. Even if we know we made a mistake, we won’t even ask the other country to send one of these people back

Absolutely disgusting.

I started buying things via Amazon back when they only sold books. I try hard not to waste my limited time on this earth with regrets, but if I were going to start regretting things, that would be high on the list.

Just cancelled all of my Amazon subscriptions. It’s just a tiny thing, but I don’t need to be giving money to billionaires who kiss Trump’s ass and destroy major free press institutions.

Hundreds of protestors lining Hwy 101 for at least a mile in Florence, Oregon this afternoon. And a dozen or so in tiny Veneta. Even in deep-blue Oregon, this was nice to see.

An update on our economic outlook

J.P. Morgan goes on the record predicting a recession for this year. Folks who are too young to remember what 2007 was like are about to learn. I hope those of us who are too young to remember 1929 don’t get a similar and worse lesson.

Trump’s top prosecutor in Washington compares Jan. 6 charges to Japanese internment

Because why should a little thing like an understanding of history get in the way of any of Trump’s minion’s wild claims?

Yesterday I learned that Americans spend roughly 10 times as much on lottery scratch tickets as they do on pizza. This baffles me. I don’t eat pizza any more, but I’ve never purchased a scratch ticket (and expect I never will). Further proof that I’m an outlier, I guess.
